Abstract Lifelong employability is an aspiration of many employees of knowledge societies. These expectations are held in labour markets that have been shaped by advancing technology and rapidly developing information systems that compel changes in the skill composition and the acquisition of relevant competencies of workers. In this paper, the author analyses this important lifelong employability trait in the 'Singaporean worker' and compares it with workers in four other developed countries. Comparisons with other countries, skills and competencies could identify gaps, which inevitably would affect human resources development in Singapore. The findings are discussed in terms of implications for Singaporean organisations.
